Parque La Batería
The design of the new La Batería Park, which measures approximately 74,000 square metres, is inspired by a new landscaping trend in which a network of hierarchically arranged pathways make it easier for visitors to visit the different areas. More specifically, there are main paths measuring 5 metres wide and built with pre-fabricated concrete cobble stones, comprising the park´s access points, its most important paths and a circular pathway surrounding the grounds, including two rotundas, both of which house ornamental marble fountains. Additionally, there are also secondary footpaths. These follow a more irregular route and are made with flattened concrete. They measure three metres in width and lead to the Park´s leafier areas. A five-metre wide pathway goes around the grounds´ outer edge and has a two-fold use as a bicycle and jogging path. It is in turn complemented by five wider exercise areas. The park was designed with exquisite respect in order to maintain the existing tree cover and the works executed did not involve the loss of a single tree. The creation of a specific children´s playground on the northern side of the park is worth a special mention. This area measures 650 square metres and is equipped with the most modern elements for this kind of facility. In addition, the coastal defence infrastructure, which gave the park its name, was refurbished to enhance its value by making it easier to visit the three artillery emplacements which originally housed 152 millimetre cannon, as well as the underground bunkers, which stored shells, and a command post to direct barrages located on the cliff. The Torremolinos Local Authority designed three access points. The main pedestrian and road access point is from the Avenida del Carmelo, and the other two are on a slope from Calle Violín and Avenida Carlota Alessandri. The main road access point leads up to a large car park area having 143 parking spaces, six of which are reserved for the disabled.
